Providing information to the BDS movement
In 2005, in response to Israeli apartheid, militarism and occupation, a coalition of Palestinian and Israeli civil society groups called on people of conscience around the world to implement boycotts, divestment campaigns and press for sanctions (BDS) against Israel until “it withdraws from all the lands occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem, and removes all its colonies and walls in those lands; implements United Nations resolutions relevant to the restitution of Palestinian refugee rights; and recognizes the right of its Palestinian citizens to full equality.”
BDS is thus not just about the wall, or the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. It is a holistic response to Israel’s militarism and its racist, apartheid policies against Palestinians. It allows ordinary people to take action in their communities and workplaces in line with the BDS call and be a part of the popular struggle for freedom in Palestine.
Over the past five years Corporate Watch has undertaken groundbreaking work tracking corporate complicity in Israeli militarism, occupation and apartheid and has become a respected and trusted news source on the subject. Our work has provided information and analysis to the growing global BDS movement.
In September 2011 Corporate Watch published Targeting Israeli Apartheid: A Boycott Divestment and Sanctions Handbook. This book uses original research conducted by Corporate Watch in Israel and Palestine to examine the Israeli economy sector by sector and expose the companies complicit in Israeli state repression. The book has been received extremely well received, described by Electronic Intifada as “quite simply the essential reference work for any activist group serious about launching a new BDS campaign”.
