Outside, a banner was held on the steps of the consulate, ignoring the “ridiculously irate” security chief, as one of the protesters put it. The banner, which had previously been used by the campaign against the Welsh pipeline, read: “Pipeline to Disaster”.

Since the arrival of Shell’s pipe-laying ship, the Solitaire, actions and protests against Shell have intensified, as reported by Corporate Watch in the last News Updates. Solidarity actions have been carried out by groups supporting the Shell to Sea campaign across the world. On 10 September, the Solitaire sustained damage and work has had to be suspended.
